Today I'm packing for my Grand Adventure to the Internats, or International Model Rocket Contest, where I will be a "Team Supporter" whatever that means. I expect they will attempt to have me chase after rockets that have drifted far and wide. I plan on taking lots of pictures of the goings-on instead. We will see what really happens.
I've used my Timbuktu icon instead of my rocket icon because the Internats are located in Liptovsky Bikulas, Slovokia. I had to buy a Michelin map of the old Czechoslovokia region to find it. The nearest big city is Vienna, Austria. I plan to drive from Otsego, Michigan to Detroit Metro Airport, stopping at Peter's house along the way, tomorrow. From Detroit I will fly to Vienna by way of Amsterdam. From Vienna I will tranfer to a hotel in Bratslavia where the US contingent will assemble for the bus ride to Liptovsky Bikulas the next morning.
The flying will last a week, similar to the US National event NARAM. Many different countries participate, several of which are old Soviet Block countries. -hence the location of this year's contest.
Depending on how much fun it looks to be, I may try out for the next team that will fly in Bulgaria in two years. Then again, Bulgaria? Maybe not.
