I had my nephew Patrick over this morning to work on model rocket building for the National Contest (NARAM) next week. (Nephew Andy had been to a concert near Detroit the night before and didn't return home until 5 am.) He was using a miniature woodworking planer to make the airfoil shape on the balsa wing of a rocket glider. He was very amused by the curly shavings he produced. -Sort of instant scrolls. He wrote his name vertically on one of the shavings just to see if it would work. It did.
Of all of my siblings, Patrick's father has done the most woodworking, yet this was his first experience with wood shavings. It is odd how such closely entangled lives can be so divergent.
