A small and tall triumph from the national rocket contest (NARAM)

I received the following email from a proud father this morning:

Fellow Huvarians,

It is with great pride, and deep humility, that I write to tell you that Emma's "Pink Pencil" Super Roc has been accepted for aquisition by the Smithsonian's National Air & Space Museum.

Last summer, shortly after NARAM, I remembered that Air & Space has a model rocketry collection so I wrote and offered Emma's rocket.

In my original letter I wrote:

"I know this rocket has no great historical value. But it is hugely visually intriguing and represents something Air & Space currently lacks, an exhibit of how kids can participate in space activities, achieve something amazing, and have lots of fun doing it."

I thought the chance they would accept it was remote, but I knew we wouldn't fly it again, and thought a record-setting 9 foot long Pink Pencil built by a 4 1/2 foot tall female junior rocketeer just might appeal to them, and help promote model rocketry. After a number of emails back and forth for more information, and apparently a number of committee meetings at Air & Space, the Smithsonian wrote today to say they want the rocket.

Although the Air & Space Museum expects us to ship it, I think we'll probably deliver the Pencil in person since that would be much more fun.

I just want to say thanks again to all of you who helped Emma with the flight and showed her such great fellowship and encouragement that whole week, and since.

And my thanks again to all of you who have provided the same encouragement and great fellowship to me.

May all of you experience the joy this hobby has brought me,
