Sorting things out
As qnvhrtz has posted, the next Fen and Filk will be held at Glimmerglass House despite or maybe because of David's death. This will be the memorial for Dave's Filk Friends. I hope it takes the form of a New Orleans funeral, sad for the loss but glad for having been here. Details will be forthcoming as our minds clear and we can work things out.

Dave will be or has been cremated. His final disposition is likely to be at the Otsego cemetary but that is yet to be finalized. I live next door to Glimmerglass House and will likely be the executor of the estate. Because of the cost of upkeep (about $700/month for taxes insurance, utilities etc.) the house will ultimately have to be sold. Does anyone interested in house sings want to move to Otsego, Michigan?

May I have your permission...

Dear Bob,
Please accept my sympathies for the death of your dear brother. Dave was a good friend of mine for twenty some years, connecting nearly annually at Chambanacons, and later at GAFilks. If you've been following Peter's LJ conversations, you probably already know about my hunt for one of Dave's poems, "Madison Mourning." Dave knew it was a favorite of mine, and always performed it for me whenever we circled together.

I've asked Peter for permission to reprint this poem in Mythic Passages. This month's theme is "Time", and the poem would be a perfect fit and a tribute to a friend gone too soon. I'd like your permission, as well.

My real regret is that I didn't make this connection while Dave was still alive and would have appreciated it. For that, I'm truly sorry.

May I, please?

Sincerely,
Brenda Sutton

No doubt you planned to anyway, but please be sure Dave is credited.

Thank you so very much, Bob. Of course, we will provide full credit for the poem to Dave.

Mythic Passages publishes on January 16th and you can find the page here.

Bob, how's Marietta? Did Dave make any provision for her?

Mary Etta is stunned as you might imagine. We are waiting on death certificates before I can check into most of his affairs. I know of nothing specific for Mary Etta at the moment.

Hiya Brother Bob:

I want to extend my sympathies to you, Peter and the rest of your family. Likewise those of Chas, Bonnie and my husband Graham. Please know that we all loved the time we spent with Dave, both in person at conventions and the house concert and chatting online. He always had that wonderful smile with a twinkle in his eye, always had just the right poem to share, always found the right song to parody to make you laugh, always wrote songs that cheered you up, touched your heart and made you smile. With the exception of the Minnesota conventions I attend, Dave has been at every single SF and Filk convention I've ever attended. He helped to cheer me up and keep me sane during the whole visa and moving to the US process with Graham. He opened up his home for Riverfolk's first Michigan house concert. And then there are all the buttons he's made for us over the years. I'm going to miss Dave and his hugs at all the conventions and miss his wittiness on LJ. I am very happy that Dave has been in my life the past 5 years, even though our contact has been limited. It's been an honor and a pleasure to have known him. I wish I could send you real hugs, but virtual ones for both you and Peter will have to do for now.

*hugs*-
